Jeu de Piste: Challenge game for young people for World Food Day 2023
16 October 2023, Geneva – The FAO Liaison Office in Geneva, the ma-terre Association and the Fondation Partage have joined forces to celebrate World Food Day in Geneva by promoting actions for the future of food, people and the planet. The three organisations have set up a Jeu de Piste, also known as the Youth Challenge Game, to involve students in interactive activities.
The university community, as well as visitors to the University of Geneva, took part in an educational trail, exploring key themes such as the local and global challenges of food waste, hunger and food insecurity, water resource management and climate change.
Jeu de Piste: quizzes on local, regional and global food initiatives
With each organisation responsible for a different stand, the teams began the treasure hunt at the Fondation Partage stand, where they discovered local initiatives to promote food security. On this stand, the Fondation Partage gave an overview of its initiatives and projects to combat food waste and food insecurity.
On the second stand, the ma-terre association, also known as the “Maison de l’Alimentation du Territoire de Genève”, informed participants about what could be done at regional level, guiding them towards methods for creating effective and sustainable solutions through conscious food consumption that have a greater social, economic and environmental impact, specifically at local level. Through an interactive exercise, ma-terre encouraged teams to think creatively about their responses to discussions on the impact of our food choices on our model of society.
At the FAO stand, players were able to find out more about the work being done at global level to improve food security, water resource management and, ultimately, the transformation of agri-food systems. In addition, the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31 was presented to demonstrate how the FAO helps its members to achieve better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.
Once they had visited all the stands and presented the three stamps attesting to the end of the Jeu de Piste, they were entered into a prize draw where they had the chance to win a wide variety of different prizes such as a free group cooking class, gift vouchers for a local grocery shop, a squash grown in Geneva and a gift basket filled with merchandise (notebooks, t-shirts, caps and other items) from the three organisations.
Building on the collaborative efforts of the World Food Day celebrations, the Jeu de Piste demonstrated the commitment of organisations, young people and the general public to creating a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
World Food Day celebrations
World Food Day is celebrated in 150 countries, bringing together young people, diverse communities, countries and international organisations. The aim of this day is to raise global awareness of the issue of hunger and to take action for the future of food, people and the planet. This year’s World Food Day theme was “Water is life, water is food”, a call to action in the water sector to discover innovative ways of preserving water resources.
