The people of the two French-speaking cantons once again demonstrated their spirit of solidarity: the operation collected a total of 247 tonnes of food and hygiene products for people in need.
Over the last few months, a worrying situation – the impact of the crises, rising prices – has put a whole section of the population in a food insecurity situation, with many families struggling to make ends meet, so supplying food banks and food aid associations has become a real balancing act. Against this tense economic backdrop, the Samedi du partage associations in Vaud and Geneva are relieved by this very positive result.
Many people in Geneva and Vaud have shown great generosity towards people in need in both cantons. 54 tonnes were harvested in Greater Lausanne and Chablais vaudois, and more than 193 tonnes in the canton of Geneva. This represents an increase of 20% for Vaud and 24% for Geneva, compared with the June edition. Our warmest thanks go to all the donors who took part in Sharing Saturday.
The organisers would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers (associations, companies, individuals, service clubs, students) for their commitment to this solidarity initiative. More than 500 volunteers gave their time over the weekend in the Greater Lausanne and Chablais areas of Vaud, and more than 1,000 in the canton of Geneva. Their thanks also go to the brands and their staff, who took care of the logistics of the operation and welcomed the teams throughout the two days of 25 and 26 November.
From this week onwards, the goods collected will be transported to the food banks, where they will be sorted, stored and redistributed to people in precarious situations through partner associations and social services.
The next edition of Samedi du partage will take place on 2 and 3 June 2023.
