Samedi du partage was a big hit in Geneva and Lausanne!

Both the people of Geneva and the people of Vaud in the Greater Lausanne area responded to the survey.
the call for solidarity launched by Samedi du partage. In the canton of Geneva, 201 tonnes of food and hygiene products were collected (up 35% on the last spring collection in shops), while in the greater Lausanne area, Samedi du partage Vaud, which organised a collection in June for the first time, collected 58 tonnes.

The collection of basic essentials was organised over two days, and from the morning of Friday 4 June, volunteers were in place in food shops to provide information to customers and put away donated goods. In both cantons, the results were very satisfactory, which is good news at a time when demand for basic necessities has risen by 30% and many households, with budgets barely sufficient to make ends meet, were unable to contribute to the harvest.

In Geneva, the harvest took place in some 90 food shops with the help of 1,200 volunteers. If you haven’t made a purchase for Sharing Saturday, you can still make a gesture of solidarity by taking part in the virtual collection on the https://samedidupartage.ch/e-recolte/ website until 30 June.

In the Greater Lausanne area, 32 sales outlets and 390 volunteers took part in the collection, including 9 shops offering virtual shopping bags. All of the donated goods will be stored in the respective cantonal food banks (Partage in Geneva, CA-RL in Vaud) and then redistributed free of charge to the beneficiary charities and social services according to their needs and specificities.

The two Samedi du partage associations would like to extend their warmest thanks to everyone who contributed to this great success. The many, many people who made donations, the volunteers (companies, associations, service clubs, students and individuals) who worked in the shops, the management of the brands and their staff, who were responsible for a large part of the event’s logistics.

The next Sharing Saturday will take place on 26 and 27 November 2021.
